Instituto de Biología Experimental E Tecnologica
IBET is an SME created to integrate biological and biochemical knowledge from academic and industrial partners into technology for economic wealth and job creation. IBET runs 16 laboratories (70m2 each), and owns an adjacent bio pilot plant of 2000m2, which started to operate in 1994. In this unit, companies have access to fermentation and downstream processing skills and equipment.
The IBET team (Biochemical Engineering group) participating in EuroPHA a project has significant expertise in research in bioengineering, microbiology and modelling, particularly on the use of mixed microbial based processes for biopolymer production (e.g. polyhydroxyalkanoates, exopolysaccharides) and other resource recovery from residues. Furthermore this team has an extensive experience in training and supervision of higher education fellows (Masters, PhD and Post-Doc).
